Youth Drama May 31 & June 4

The Glengarriff Youth Theatre Group will be performing a powerful new play on Thursday May 31 and Monday June 4 at 8 PM in the Parochial Hall.  The one act drama, ‘Bat Out of Heaven’, is by British playwright Frank Gibbons. Entry fee will be €5 for adults and €3 for students.
Sixteen year old Rob is stunned when his sister Jessie, a talented table tennis player, is diagnosed with leukaemia. He is further shocked when it is revealed that Jessie had been adopted into the family as a young child. Angered by what he feels has been unnecessary secrecy, he becomes increasingly resentful and argumentative. Also, as his relationship with girlfriend Mel becomes difficult to maintain, Rob begins to display an irrational jealousy towards his sick sister. However, during a chat with his grandmother, Rob learns that Jessie may have a true brother or sister somewhere. This means there may be a perfect donor for Jessie’s critical bone marrow transplant after all. Rob realizes he now has to embark upon a quest to find that person. But how can you possibly trace someone when you don’t even know the name?
