Wonderful Musical Evening at The Golf Club.

What an evening!  Glengarriff Golf Club staged a musical evening on Fri April 20th featuring Maren Gamper a Swiss pianist and her partner Yannick Longet a well recognized and popular mime artist from Dijon , France.  They are both visiting Glengarriff rehearsing their new show ( opening in Paris shortly) and readily agreed to perform when contacted by the Captain of the Golf Club.  They are extraordinary artists, very talented and not risk adverse. In fact Maren performed piano suspended from a large crane in Baden last summer as part of a successful outdoor play, which ran for two weeks.

They were joined on stage by local talent Kevin Ger O’Sullivan, Eoghan and Darragh McElhinney,Liam Cotter and Jenny Booth.

Maren opened with Allegro de Concerto from Enrique Granados (Granados was the basis of Maren’s masters thesis) followed by Fantasie KV 475 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a delightful improvisation of themes from Chopin.

Then Yannick miming his way to the stage stunning the large audience, joined Maren in original compositions of French rural tunes played on the Diatonic and Chromatique accordians accompanied by Maren.  This led to sustained and loud applause as the audience recognized the uniqueness of the performance.

Maren then effortless switched  to a rendering of the Banks of my own Lovely Lee joined by Paddy Mulcahy who sang brilliantly.  Paddy who is also President of the Golf Club exclaimed that in all his years he had never heard such a beautiful interpretation of the tune.  Maren had first seen the sheet music only just before the performance !  She then surpassed herself with the Boys of Fail Hill again conjointly with Paddy .  Yannick was full  of praise for the local talent who all performed with pride and confidence.

The show was presented very professionally by the veteran artiste Maggie Frame.

Anne Cronin, the Lady Captain thanks all the entertainers and recognized the sponsorship of local organisation BMSA  who have a growing entertainment division involved in the cult Other Voices events staged in Dingle annually and in New York in 2011 and London 2013.

The large audience showed high appreciation for the International standing and performance of Maren and Yannick  .

  1. Well done to everyone concerned with this wonderful evenings entertainment. The visiting musicians were excellent but the local talent kept the home side up very much. The younger performers, Liam Cotter and the two McElhinney brothers are very talented and deserve special mention. We look forward to hearing much more from them. “Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh siad”
