Tracks and Trails – The Beara Way On RTE – Reminder

Tracks and Trails

Celebrity chefs Kevin Thornton and Derry Clarke on Beara Peninsula

Our Leisure Tourism team are supporting a new series ‘Tracks and Trails’ which commences on RTE One this evening at 7.30pm.  This is the first episode of a five part series that features the Beara Peninsula, and is presented by celebrity chefs Derry Clarke and Kevin Thornton.  Each programme features spectacular walks and cycle tracks in stunning locations across Ireland and will be presented by a different celebrity guest each week, such as Diarmuid Gavin, Packie Bonner and Ken Doherty.

The show will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase what is on offer, not only for outdoor enthusiasts but all holidaymakers, and it is hoped it will persuade the watching audience to take a break in Ireland this year.  Walking is a popular activity both domestically and with our overseas visitors, with over 860,000 Irish people engaged in walking while holidaying at home in 2009 and over 800,000 overseas visitors taking part while in Ireland.

Ciara Scully, Product Officer – Walking and Cycling, said:

“Walking is becoming an increasing popular activity for Irish holidaymakers.  With the development and enhancement of walking routes across the country, there has never been a better time to experience walking in Ireland.

Our research shows that more than eight out of ten adults are likely to take a holiday at home with their family in Ireland this year.  Tracks and Trails, spotlighting the fabulous walking routes available on the Beara Peninsula, will allow Irish people to consider the South West region when planning their home holiday this year.”
