Connie Murphy – Archaeologist
Connie is a retired primary teacher. He is actively involved with his local historical society and has conducted many field trips with school children and adult groups. Connie surveys and records archaeological sites and monuments with Dúch as the Heritage Service.
His aim is to encourage adults, children and visitors to become aware of and to appreciate their historical/ archaeological environment. His presentation include a slide-show and discussion to explore a local historic/archaeological sites, e.g. ringfort, stone circle, castle, cillíneach etc.
The third of the four talks planned for July was a huge success.
The room was full to standing room capacity.
To say it was informative was to minimize the impact of the content and information provided by Connie Murphy.
Connie gave the following web site as a good source of information for the country and can be viewed by county and town land. www.archaeologist.ie
A suggestion to arrange instructed walks to some of the local town lands which show examples of the many sites Connie discussed was raised. This will be planned for later in the year if possible.
The evening was a great success and very enjoyable, well done to Connie Following the talk there were lots of questions from the very attentive audience.
The series of talks were planned and organized by Jim Larner on behalf of the Glengarriff Tourism & Development Association. Many thanks to Jim for a very sucessfull session of talks and speakers.
The final talk for July will be:
“The O’Sullivan Beres, Their Place in History”
Thursday 22nd July at 8:00pm
