The Beara Way on RTÉ One

The Beara Way will feature on RTÉ One on Friday 16th July on a new programme called Tracks and Trails. The programme will be 30 minutes long and was filmed between Allihies and Dursey. Numerous locals were interviewed for the programme including Connie Murphy of the Beara Historical Society, Tadgh O’ Sullivan of the Allihies Mines Co-op and Pat O Neill postman for Dursey Island as well as many more locals. Beara Tourism put a strong submission into Failte Ireland to highlight the Beara Way. The filming took place in May and two celebrity chefs Kevin Thornton and Derek Clark appear in this new documentary. Two highlights of the show will be Kevin and Derek inside in the cable car with 10 sheep and these two famous chefs having a barbecue in Dursey Island after purchasing fish from Timmy Murphy in Garnish. The filming would not have taken place without the cooperation of Allihies Mines Co-op, the Beara Historical Society, Beara Tourism and West Cork Community Partnership and Cork County Council.

  1. What luck that the filming was done in May and not these days!(Wet, wet, wet). Beara certainly
looked at its best with some great aerial shots.
It’s quite mind-blowing to think that so many people worked at the Allihies mines. I hope to walk some more of the area in time to come but I don’t think my head would stand the cable car trip to Dursey! Great to see the area getting some exposure on rte.
