  1. Shocked and appalled. Can personally testify to the remarkable mental agility and strength of character of Dr O’Hara. Time for the police and the lawyers!

  2. Dear Miss O’Hara, I am heart broken to hear of the difficulties you are going through. You have given so much pleasure to so many people, not least through your own personality and beauty. I am now 70, and endured a very difficult childhood. Seeing you in the movies, somehow lifted me and helped me get through. I have a photo of you and John Wayne, in my music room. You still have the power to lift me up and make the world a happier place.
God bless you and may you find people to help you through this awful time. I and many many others are with you in spirit.
I still have my red hair, much faded now and after merciless teasing as a child, I now love my hair. Seeing you…a gorgeous redhead on the big screen, was amazing to me as a child.
If I can be of any assistance, I am here for you.
With fond memories and much love

  3. Dear Ms. O Hara,
For what it is worth you are not the first to suffer this injustice. Other major artists like yourself who trusted their lives to others were butchered as a result of that trust. While I may not be able to directly assist in the restoration of your life and rights, I will offer my services on behalf of your charity.
I am a major events and concerts producer based in the U.S. I would like to offer my services to produce a major benefit to raise funds for your charity. I have a major passion for Ireland (my family is from there), as well as a love of children and a major fan of yours my whole life. If I can bring these three things together to benefit where you put your heart it would be a pleasure and an honor.
The best of life to you Ms. O Hara and thank you for the magic you brought to this place.
    Sincerely,
    Michael McIntosh

  7. GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT??? By the comments posted above, the people making them are jumping to the conclusion that the attack upon Ms. Murphy is justified. People in glass houses should not throw stones. Shame on all of you for participating in gossip, slander & libel.

Do you know any of the facts? Were you at this so called “Press Conference?” Do you know the character of the person claiming Ms. O’Hara has been betrayed? He may not be the upstanding citizen with the credibility you ASSUME he possesses. You are so easily lead down the wrong path. This is how you treat one of your own? It’s astonishing to me that all of you who know Carolyn Murphy, have not offered one word of defense on her behalf.

I won’t be visiting your village, supporting your businesses, or contributing to your charities this year. Your bad behavior has chased me away.

  8. Totally agree with Mary Goodwin. Nothing to add. Good luck to Maureen for the future and happy birthday (92 years old August 17).

  9. Do you know the facts Mary Goodman ? Do you know the character of the person you’re defending ? She may not be the upstanding citizen with the credibility you ASSUME she possesses . I’m afraid you’re the one who’s been lead so easily down the wrong path as I once was . Please refrain from judgement until all the facts are gathered and the truth revealed.

  10. To Mr C FitzSimons, can you please give us any hope that once these sad matters are resovlved, that the festival will be reserected and plans for the legacy centre to continue, as I think I speak for all true fans of Maureen, her name stands for more than just 60 years of film magic it stands as the foundations for all future generations to be able to experiance and enjoy what I have been fortunate to experiance over the years happyness and joy!!!!.

  11. To who it may concern,
I am sorry to read about the recent events affecting Ms O’Hara. It seems like a terrible situation for all involved. However how can we as outsiders judge the family when we don’t have possession of all the facts? If it was my mother or my grandmother or my aunt I would want to be sure that she and her affairs were being properly taken care of. If the people involved weren’t ‘famous personalities’, would it even be in the public sphere? I think people should give the family space and let Ms O’Hara enjoy her twilight years.

  12. I’m very sorry to hear that Maureen has left Glengarriff (albeit temporarily). I wish her well in the future and with her ongoing legal difficulties. “The truth will out!”.

  13. I fear that things have been ruined for the village. Hopefully things will become clearer after the courts sort this sorry mess out. Best wishes to Ms Maureen O’Hara and hurry home. Your village needs you.

  15. To whom it may concern,
As a close friend of Maureen and her family for more years than I care to remember, I’d just like to reassure her many friends and neighbours in Glengarriff that Maureen has not forgotten all of you. Now that Maureen has control of her life again, she and her immediate family are very anxious to pursue ideas to boost tourism and help the continued growth and success of Glengarriff through a permanent presence of artifacts and memorabilia.
As Maureen says herself “Bad things can happen to the best of people. All you can do is stand up tall and keep walking”.
Maureen we’ll meet again in Casey’s someday soon.
