Garinish 100 Exhibition

An exhibition outlining the history and development of Garinish Island opened to the public this week.

Sited in the Failte Ireland Tourist Information Office, the exhibition is a series of six panels devised and researched by Jim Larner.  The panels feature some stunning photographic images of the plant life of the island garden including a series of four depicting the changing seasons.  A unique feature of the display is the reproductions of the original architect’s drawings by Harold Peto.

These beautiful drawings, hand drawn and coloured by the architect over 100 years ago have never been on public display before.  They show in detail the various iconic buildings on the island including the Casita, Medici House and the Campanile together with the plan for the proposed mansion incorporating the Martello Tower which sadly was never built.

The exhibition will run until the end of August and is well worth a look by both visitors and locals.
