The event was held in the beautiful setting of the  Eccles Hotel Function room. Overlooking the Bay  and the star attraction of the evening “Garinish  Island”

The event was well attended and the Tourism & Development Committee are very appreciative of the turn out for the launch.

The Guest speaker, Conor Buckley, chairman of  West Cork Tourism and “father”  of the relaunched Fastnet Swansea to Cork ferry, gave a very  interesting  talk and shared his appreciation for the  Garinish  100 campaign and the village of  Glengarriff.  Mr  Buckley thanked the poeple of Glengarriff for the  support given  to the Swansea-Cork Ferry. He  provided an  overview of the success of the re-instated ferry to  date.

“Glengarriff is lucky to have such an active Tourism Association. You are years ahead of most other tourist associations,” Conor Buckley declared.

He went on to praise Glengarriff as a beautiful tourist product and the smartly defined profile with a logo, web site and promotion material etc, which the Glengarriff tourism and Development Association (GTDA) has worked hard to develop over the last number of years.

Everyone involved is now looking forward to the very special Garinish 100 events planned for the upcoming months. Regular scheduled events will be posted on this web site and around the village as well as local newspapers. There is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy and participate in.

GTDA chairman Colm Mac Carthy gave a background of the events planned and of the Island.  Colm thanked the boatmen and Island Ferry Providers for their support of the Garinish 100 campaign. Colm praised the safety record of carrying 4 mil passengers to Garinish Island over the years  and honoured the past boatmen.
