A Remarkable Jazz Night in Glengarriff

Three young local musicians gave a more than well attended concert in Glengarriff Park Hotel on Tuesday night. The three gifted artists Ailbhe Connolly (vocals), Kevin O’Shea (lead guitar & vocals) and Declan O`Shea (Rhythm guitar & vocals) presented 26 popular songs of the Great Jazz Age of the 1920ies in a most professional way. A 90 people strong audience celebrated the night of swing and song, an accoustic journey 80 years back in time, applauding Ailbhe and the O´Shea Brothers for their soulful and accomplished appearance. Organising Glengarriff Tourism and Development Association (GTDA) was happy with the result of this first “Jazz on a Glengarriff Summer´s Evening”, so there may be more events alike in the future. The night was part of the Garinish Island 100 Celebrations.

Betty Timmerman commented from the audience: “We had a most enjoyable evening with our local talented group Kevin and Declan  The O’Shea brothers and Ailbhe Connolly a lovely voice. We will hear from them a lot more in the future. Maybe Ireland has Talents. Go for it.”

  1. I know that I may be accused of bias on a few different levels, but that aside, I feel that last evenings music event was one of the best shows ever staged here in Glengarriff. The capacity crowd who had travelled from as far away as Kinsale were absolutely charmed. A great tribute to the talented young musicians who performed songs which in many cases were older than the combined ages of all three of them. Somebody is working on a comprehensive critical review of the event which we should publish in due course.

  2. Congratulations to all three performers for putting on such a professional show, with great interpretation of some very challenging songs. Hopefully this was just the first of many such shows which we can look forward to in the future!
I think a bigger venue might be needed if Tuesday was anything to go by! Well done again.
